Lovely Lady dressed in blue ——-

Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
Tell me what to say!

Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
Gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
Mother does to me?
Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever try Telling stories of the world?
O! And did He cry?

Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things ——-
Little things that happen? And
Do the Angels’ wings
Make a noise? And can He hear
Me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me ——-for you know.

Author: Mary Dixon Thayer (1896-1989)

This prayer-poem was popularized in the 1950s by Archbishop Fulton Sheen. This hymn of petition to Mary, asking for help with prayer, is based on a poem written by American Roman Catholic poet and tennis player Mary Dixon (Molly) Thayer (1896-1989 – ref). The poem was originally released in her book The Child On His Knees which was published by Macmillan in 1926 (ref). It became widely known when it was regularly read by American television-priest and later bishop Fulton J. Sheen in the 1950s.

Esta oración poema fue popularizada en la década de 1950 por el arzobispo Fulton Sheen.

Este himno de petición a María, pidiendo ayuda con la oración, está basado en un poema escrito por la poetisa católica y tenista estadounidense Mary Dixon (Molly) Thayer (1896-1989 – ref).

El poema se publicó originalmente en su libro El Niño sobre sus Rodillas el cual fue publicado por Macmillan en 1926 (ref). 

Se hizo ampliamente conocido cuando era leído regularmente por un sacerdote de la televisión estadounidense y más tarde obispo Fulton J. Sheen en la década de 1950.

Our Lady of Tenderness
The icon portrays the bond of intimacy between the Mother of God and her son Jesus. Their cheeks meet in loving embrace, and their eyes in a gaze of mutual compassion.

Icons are often described as “windows” to the divine. They invite us to deeper pondering to a meaning that might not be immediately obvious with just our sense of sight. We might choose to just silently observe, basking in wonder.

Let us pray.
Mary, tender mother, you and your child are cheek to cheek and heart to heart. He shares your humanity. I am drawn to your compassionate gaze. What is it that you want me to hear? May I also learn to love tenderly. Amen.

Nuestra Señora de la Ternura

El icono representa el vínculo de intimidad entre la Madre de Dios y su hijo Jesús. Sus mejillas se encuentran en un abrazo amoroso y sus ojos en una mirada de mutua compasión.

Los iconos se describen a menudo como “ventanas” a lo divino. Nos invitan a reflexionar más profundamente sobre un significado que podría no ser inmediatamente obvio con solo nuestro sentido de la vista. Podríamos elegir simplemente el observar en silencio, deleitándonos con el asombro.

Oremos,
María, madre tierna, tú y tu hijo están mejilla con mejilla y corazón a corazón. Él comparte tu humanidad. Soy atraída por tu mirada compasiva. ¿Qué es lo que quieres que yo escuche? Que yo también aprenda a amar con ternura. Amén.

Let us pray,
Surprising God of possibilities, send messenger angels to give us
the good news,
as you did Mary. Awaken us again to our your dreams for us. Lure us to follow your desire to birth your kingdom among us. Open our hearts to listen for your whisper
In the ordinary, in the extra ordinary, in the most expected and unexpected situations and conditions. We ask this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen

Dios de las sorpresas y posibilidades, envía ángeles mensajeros para darnos la buena noticia, como lo hiciste con María.   Despiértanos de nuevo a tus sueños para nosotros. Anímanos a seguir tu deseo de dar a luz tu Reino entre nosotros. Abre nuestros corazones para escuchar tu susurro

En lo ordinario, en lo extraordinario, en las situaciones y condiciones más esperadas o inesperadas. Te pedimos esta oración en el nombre de Tu Hijo, Jesucristo.

Advent 2021

Advent Windows

It is a tradition for many Christians throughout the world to mark the days of Advent with the aid of a special calendar. Each day, a door or a window is opened to reveal a scripture quote or a figure from the nativity scene or perhaps a small gift.

Drawing upon the Advent/Christmas image that we have used for a number of years, we invite you to reflect upon “the candle in the window of a Providence person” as a promise of welcome into a circle of friends.

There is no more appropriate “window” for our Advent ponderings than that of Mary, the mother of Jesus and the first Disciple. As Thomas Merton proclaimed: “Mary,…was as pure as the glass of a very clean window that has no other function than to admit the light of the sun.” Thomas Merton (NSC, p172)

Each day in the Advent season we will focus on a different aspect of Marian spirituality as a “window” into the mystery of the Incarnation. Please join us with your prayers and postings on this community blog.

Ventanas de Adviento

Es una tradición para muchos cristianos en todo el mundo marcar los días de Adviento con la ayuda de un calendario especial. Cada día, se abre una puerta o una ventana para revelar una cita bíblica de las Escrituras, un ornamento de la escena de Belén o quizás un pequeño regalo.

Basándonos en la imagen de Adviento / Navidad que hemos usado durante varios años, le invitamos a reflexionar sobre “la vela en la ventana de una persona de la Providencia” como una promesa de bienvenida dentro de un círculo de amigos.

No hay “ventana” más apropiada para nuestras reflexiones de Adviento que la de María, la madre de Jesús y la primera Discípula. Como proclamó Thomas Merton: “María, … era tan pura como el cristal de una ventana muy limpia que no tiene otra función más que la de admitir la luz del sol”. Thomas Merton (NSC, pág. 172)

Cada día, durante la temporada de Adviento, nos centraremos en un aspecto diferente de la espiritualidad mariana como una “ventana” al misterio de la Encarnación.  Favor de unirse  a nosotras con sus oraciones y publicaciones en este blog de la comunidad.
