Sisters of Divine Providence 
Sister Marise was my First Grade teacher. I started the year late pending approval from the Diocese for me to be able to start early since my birthday wasn’t until November. Being the “new kid I was petrified, but she immediately made me feel welcome and loved. I never forgot that. We remained pen pals throughout and I was overjoyed to report to her that I had been ordained a Deacon! We got together several times and she insisted upon seeing my mother in her waning years. Sister was a one-of-a-kind special person who made everyone feel loved by her and by God. I carry that with me everyday! Having been born into eternal life, I continue to pray for her, and seek her intercession before His throne. I was blessed immeasurably by having Sister in my life!

Sister Marie was a wonderful person to know she made us be strong independent woman. I can not wait to meet her again. She will be there to meet all of us. It was a pleasure to know her.

I have been blessed with having a few people touch my life who are truly good in every aspect of goodness. Sr. Marise was one of those exceptional people. She was my friend, my mentor, and my travel partner. She was just a joy to be with, and everyone loved Sister! I smiled when I read that she said she wanted people know that her life was an adventure. She could make an adventure out of anything! God’s Peace, dear Sr. Marise. I am sure you are having heavenly adventures now!

Sister Marise was my Principal and good friend Everyone should be blessed with such a kind,thoughtful,friend. She unconditionally loved all of the us at Saint Josephs Grade School in Dover,Ohio and changed us all by her dignified, God loving example. I loved to hear her sing and see her smile.Having her in my life was truly a gift from God

Sr. Marise was one of the most understanding and compassionate school administrators I have ever met, either as a student, or as a teacher. She was my principal at St. Joseph’s in Dover, Ohio.
As a middle school student, I suffered terrible cramps when it was that time of the month. She never accused me of faking or trying to get out of class. She would give me some tylenol and a hot water bottle, and let me curl up in a ball in her office or in the teacher’s lounge with a book. If the cramps eased, I gave back the water bottle and headed back to class. The two or three times they got worse, she called my mom to pick me up.
I’m sure the influence of Sr. Marise has helped me to become a more compassionate teacher. She will be missed!

I am truly saddened to have lost my beautiful friend, Sr. Marise. She was a rainbow in my life for thirty two years. She endeared herself to my whole family with her delightful ways of caring. We shared so many wonderful moments, her favorite was sitting on my front porch while we prayed together. Her faith and trust in Divine Providence was an amazing example which will always guides me in my own faith. Sr. Marise loved so many things in this world too…sunsets, walks outdoors, traveling, children, ice cream roses, and new adventures. She saw beauty in everyone and everything she encountered. I’m forever grateful for the day God brought us together…you as Principal and me as your Kindergarten teacher at St. Brendans. Thank you for your love and friendship as you remain always in God’s warm embrace. My deepest sympathy and prayers for your mother Mary, your brother Bill and all of your family.

Her light never stopped shining even when she was in lockdown in the motherhouse infirmary, even when she was in the hospital in her last days. She refused to stop shining.

I knew her for 20 years we had bible study together we became good friends. When she left Ambridge we wrote and called each other and sent wishes and prayer for each other , she always made you feel special we had masses said for my family and her mother and her . I received a letter from her in February that she made me feel like a saint I wanted to write her back, but I did not know how to respond so when I was going to write her back I heard she was in hospital , I cried my heart out because I needed to talk her, I did get a hold of her and I said how I love and always prayed for her and mom I said I will have a mass for you and she even then made me feel loved and oh thank you she said and I will pray for you too. The next week May 16th she died I found next day . May 16th was our 50th anniversary we had 2 masses and received communion we had a very blessed day and I could not thank Jesus enough . The next day I found out and was at piece because she died on my very special day that was My Blessed day I Will always love and pray for her

Although I only had the pleasure of knowing Sr. Marice less than 2 years, she always made me feel like we were longtime friends. I will always remember her sparkling eyes, smile, and spirit!

Marise lives in the eternal embrace of our Provident God. One of her many gifts to us in Community was her gift of singing. I can still hear her sing Psalm 139: O God, You Search Me and You Know Me by Sr. Bernadette Farrell. I will always remember her for her gift of music which she shared so readily.
You were a valiant woman. You embodied our charism of “trust in and openness to the Providence of God.”

Sister Marise was amazing woman, so warm and caring. What a wonderful friend she was to our aging parents prior to their passing. We will always remember when Sister Marise joined some our family gatherings, she was such a pleasure to be around. We pray that Sister Marise is enjoying her eternal reward and is once again spending time with our parents.

Marise has now joined the heavenly choir of angels. I shall miss her beautiful smile and clear sweet voice. She was always so welcoming to me whenever I came to Providence Heights. Her strength and courage and belief in Providence was so evident in her entire being. The last card she sent was so very thoughtful and loving. I pray for her mother Mary and her brother and his wife as they too mourn her passing.

Marise, I’ll always remember you for your kindness and attentiveness to others in their time of need. The last time for me was —–Easter was arriving and I wasn’t allowed to go into St. Joseph’s Center to put up the bulletin board. I called and asked you if you would put up. And without any hesitation you told me you would do your best. On Holy Saturday I received your call telling me it was finished.

I have only known Marise for the past 5 years and these many comments that i am reading celebrate the real and generous life of the person i came to appreciate. She offered love and happily received it back from the many persons whose lives she touched which was obvious from the steady stream of cards, calls and prayers that surroundded her in these last weeks. She was devoted to her mother, tending to her in every way and expressing her gratitude to the staff of St Joseph Center through so many personal gestures and notes of thanks. During the lockdown of the infirmary she lived in SJC to support mother Mary and work alongside staff doing whatever chores needed done, visiting with the sisters and singing. Her quiet, humble service, while she herself was not well, spoke volumes to all who saw her courage. My last conversation with her was just a couple weeks ago when she brought the dietary cart to the hallway for dietary staff to pick up. We chatted (six feet apart) and when we parted she shared her claasic words that always ended every conversation we ever had —“God bless you.” For sure, God is blessing her now as our memories of her continue to bless us!

I am so sorry to hear of Sr. Marise’s passing, but I do know that Heaven is certainly welcoming a mist perfect angel. Her non-stop positivity and love of Jesus was always an inspiration to me.

I am thoroughly devastated to hear this news. I love Sr. Marise! I went to Providence Heights Alpha school (class of ’78) and have kept in touch with her all of these years. She was always an inspiration to me and a good friend. I would always send her postcards from my travels around the world and she always encouraged my travels and learning new things from those experiences. I will always remember her kindness and encouragement. She is one of a kind and I will miss her (and her letters) immensely. I know I have her watching over me and she’ll always be with me when I travel.

Sister Marise, a beautiful prayerful, positive, kind, understanding and loving person. Absolute joy to be with and when you walked away from her you carried a heart filled with excitement and courage to be able to move forward with whatever life would have in store. She touched so many of us with those lovely cards filled with words of love and prayer, always feeling inspired by them. Thank you for all you have done. Everyone needs a Sister Marise in their life.

When I was as my wit’s end when trying to deal with my aging mother, I remembered how wonderful the social service people at Good Samaritan church in Ambridge had been during the my father’s illness. I now live in Ohio and called Sr. Marise. She was amazing. She brought communion and organized the help that was needed.

I was devastated to learn of Sr. Marise’s passing today. She was our principal at St. Brendan School in Detroit from 1987-90. At the time, I was the 8th grade junior high teacher under her administration. When she left in 1990, I was named as principal. Sr. Marise left an indelible mark on me, our faculty, students and their parents. She was a loving, compassionate, and faith-filled Sister who saw the good in everyone. We kept in contact for the last three decades and saw her on occasion when she visited back to Michigan. I know she is with the Lord who must have given her a return hug just like she so often gave to all of us. Bless you, Sr. Marise, and your wonderful time with us.

I did not know Sister Marise well, but I came to recognize her by her brilliant smile and the vitality she radiated. Whenever our paths crossed at Providence Heights, she always greeted me as though we were old friends. I will miss her life-giving presence among us.

A recent experience we shared in St. Joseph Center on March 17, 2020 (at your instigation) was to sing an Irish song at the doorway of each person. We were happy doing this and so were those who heard us sing.

Marise, you have been a true blessing in my life. I treasure our ministry together, making joyful music to our Provident God, but even more, I treasure our friendship. I will miss our conversations about faith, family, music, and so many other things. Your laughter rings in my ears. You truly revealed God’s Providence to me and so many others. When we are brought face to face with goodness and holiness it has a undeniable impact. Marise was that encounter for me. Always a kind word, the best hugs on campus, and more concern for the heath and well being of others than for herself. To have walked that far in her life journey is a true blessing.

As we prayerfully commended her to God’s care this past week with the Sacrament of the Sick, Marise was able to utter one word of prayer; AMEN! I join you today dear friend in that prayer, AMEN!!! It was a pleasure to know you (since shared Beaver County days) in this life. I look forward to seeing your sweet smile, to hearing your heavenly voice, and to share wondrous humor and love again at the banquet of life. Thank you, and I will miss you until then. I was so saddened to hear the news this morning of Sr. Marise’s death. She was one of the sweetest, kindest, and happiest women I have ever known. She always greeted people with a smile. Her voice filled the chapel with joy and prayer. I send my sympathy to her mother and her community. She is beyond pain and suffering, but we are not. I shall certainly keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for letting me know. I would certainly have been at her funeral Mass.

When filling out her Golden Jubilee form for the Pittsburgh Catholic, Marise was asked what helped to sustain her enthusiasm and commitment to religious life. She wrote, “When I see the commitment of religious in my community, our Associates and the Sisters who taught me, religious teachers of Saint Lucy Filippini, and the devotion of the lay people who have touched my life.”
